Blind Girl Reading

Ejnar Nielsen " Blind girl reading"

Visiting the SMK museum in Copenhagen last weekend, I was struck by this paradoxically - titled work by Danish artist Ejnar Nielsen. In his painting he evokes the invisible : how the tactile impressions of the fingers running over the tiny bumps on the page conjure within the mind's eye of the blind reader, images, impressions and stories. See how the girl, who is usually enveloped in darkness, is lightened up by the brightness of the pages of a book...how sensitive... and what a beautiful metaphor for what happens to a reader. Any reader...
